Trends in tourism I think can be seen well, by looking at a traditional destination which is only gaining in popularity these days: Bordeaux.
Most of you already know that Bordeaux is among the most exclusive spots in the world for wine and it has long been a home to aristocracy and their vacations in France, at least since the dawn of the 19th century.
We can see some travel trends in Bordeaux where they continue to be among the world’s biggest sellers of wine and of course the wine gift baskets that often accompany the wine itself.
Two trends we see happening in Bordeaux and elsewhere. Better food and wine is starting to become a bigger and bigger draw. Secondly, people are willing to spend money on food and wine as an experience the same way they are willing to spend money to live close to the beach.
People of course are becoming more and more health conscious so tend to be more moderate in their drinking. This is usually involved in people buying better quality wines and drinking less. Although there is still a growing alcohol problem especially in the middle classes in many European countries – see this article about the drug Selincro.
